The Boston Celtics break the tie and win their 18th title

Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, Al Hereford, and Derrick White. This year they built upon the success that got them to the 2022 Finals and they have exorcised the demons of the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals.

Eighteen titles breaks the tie between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers that has existed since the latter notched their seventeenth during the pandemic.

And one-time Spurs guard Derrick White, one of the most underrated players in the league, is now an NBA champion.

White may not be done for the year. As Adrian Wojnarowski reported during the series, White is on deck to replace Kawhi Leonard if The Law is not healthy enough to join Team USA in the Olympics this summer.

White and Leonard played in one season together, but it was White’s first season and the year Kawhi only played in nine games.

In addition to all that White brought to the table, Al Horford got his first title after over 180 playoff games and sixteen seasons. Tatum and Brown had more playoff games together without a title than any other duo. And Jrue Holiday, who was surprised and originally hurt to have bee traded away from Milwaukee, solidified his role as the player to get your team to the next level. Think of Chris Paul, except with the rings to prove it.

White interviewed at the end of the game with his teeth chipped and loose from chasing down lose balls. White blocked shots of 7-foot dunkers. He made threes effortlessly.

Not bad for a kid who wasn’t;t even being scouted as a teen.

Congratulations to White, the Celtics, and the town of Boston.
